Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Sister / Junior Manager role working within the Main Outpatient department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

We are an energetic friendly team looking for an experienced Nurse who is dynamic, supportive and flexible who can demonstrate confident leadership skills.

This is a busy role seeing high volumes of patients. The post holder must be able to competently deal with competing clinical and managerial priorities and be calm and compassionate in their care of patients.

The post holder will need to possess relevant experience that demonstrates their suitability for the role and have a desire to develop their management and leadership skills. Appropriate support will be provided.

Informal visits are encouraged.

Under the direction of the senior sister, post holder will be responsible for the effective delivery of care given to patients within the designated Outpatients Departments.

The post holder is responsible for the day to day operational management and clinical requirements of the clinics in the designated areas.

Work alongside all members of the Outpatients MDT to ensure the clinics are run safely and effectively and escalating when required.

Anticipate the care needs of patients and actively manage the patient's journey by pro-actively participating in the care as part of the multidisciplinary team.

Be a visible and supportive presence in the designated areas working clinically.

Be a positive change agent and be proactive in the development of the designated Outpatient areas.

Deliver care in accordance with Nursing & Midwifery Council Code of Conduct & Trust Policies

The assessment of care and health education needs.

The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.

To demonstrate experience and skills in:

  1. To ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
  2. To participate in preceptorship programmes as appropriate and act as a facilitator / mentor / preceptor / role model to less experienced staff
  3. To provide supervision, support and education to junior staff, unqualified staff and students.
  4. Develop, lead and manage a patient centred nursing service delivered by professional staff ensuring the highest possible standards of care
  5. To deputise for the Departmental Manager in her absence.
  6. To manage and develop new clinics/ lists and staff working within the area.
  7. Contribute significantly towards the strategic and operational development of the Unit
  8. Support the Departmental Manger in the recruitment and selection process of nursing staff
  9. Support the Departmental Manager in the monitoring of sickness absence
  10. To be able to work countywide as required by the Directorate / Service

The post involves manual handling activities and exposure to body fluids and chemicals. May involve some VDU work and individuals may be / are exposed to violence and aggression
