Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and dynamic pharmacy technician to lead the pharmacy medicines management team at Worcester Royal Hospital.
The post holder will be responsible for the development of the medicines management service and daily management of the medicine management technicians within the medicine team.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills, be a team player and be able to lead the team forward in developing the service. We are looking for someone with a drive for improving services with quality improvement at the centre of the role. You will work alongside both the clinical and pharmacy teams in ensuring the service promotes safe and effective care whilst striving for innovation.
The post holder will require registration with the GPhC, previous hospital medicines management experience and experience of leading people and projects.
The candidate will also be responsible for supporting the dispensary with accuracy checking and required to work on the weekend and bank holiday rotas.
Main duties of the job
Managing, developing and providing the pharmacy technical elements of the ward-based pharmaceutical service to both the allocated specialist area and the wider medical Unit (WRH).
Facilitating seamless pharmaceutical care to patients and technical pharmacy support to medical and nursing staff to ensure the safe and cost-effective use of medicines within the post-holders specialist area.
Working unsupervised using own initiative to effectively manage the workload of junior technicians, junior pharmacists and students including liaison with specialist pharmacists.
Co-ordinating and delivering the departmental technical ward-based training programme for pre-registration pharmacy graduates and technical staff at WRH and assessing the competency of these staff through the approved accreditation process.
Contributing to the strategic development of training and education programmes for pharmacy staff across the department.
Reviewing, assessing and developing technical MMS policies and procedures to reflect the on-going needs of patients and staff and pro-actively contributing to the countywide MMS group in the updating of existing procedures and the creation of new ones.
Fulfilling all the roles and responsibilities of an accredited accuracy checking technician within the pharmacy department as required.
