Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust

Staff Nurse SSDEC

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

A rare opportunity has become available to extend the well established team working in the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care Unit at Worcester Royal Hospital. The unit was opened in December 2022 and accepts referrals from the Emergency Department, GP's, West Midlands Ambulance Service and 111. It is a fast paced, high turnover area where no two days are the same. It requires a dynamic person who can think on their feet and has excellent prioritisation skills.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Surgical Nurse Practitioner team providing assessment and treatment for ambulant patients presenting with an emergency surgical problem. The ethos of the unit is to see, treat and either discharge or admit all patients within a 12-hour timeframe.

Main duties of the job

The roles and responsibilities of the staff nurse include initial assessment of new patients; extended skills such as cannulation and venepuncture; providing care; implementing treatments including antibiotics and analgesia; liaising with other areas in the hospital and facilitating discharges.

The unit has implemented Electronic Patient Record keeping, and a good knowledge of IT systems is essential.
