Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated nurse to use their existing skills and knowledge to provide high quality care for our valuable workforce, and external customers.

You must be an experienced registered nurse, with a genuine interest in Occupational Health with excellent interpersonal skills and first rate client and customer service talents. You should be able to work autonomously, and flexibly as part of an experienced and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team. You should be able to use computerised patient record systems, and Microsoft office.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

Carrying out pre employment health checks and advising on adjustments required.

Making individual health needs assessment.

Assisting in the audit process of the department.

Offering support and signposting to counsellor, or physiotherapist etc.

Assessing and managing workplace risks, carrying out Display screen assessments.

Carrying out surveillance testing such as Audiometry, Spirometry, Skin and HAVs.

Vaccinations, such as the flu jab, hepatitis B etc.

Taking blood samples

Advising on Needle stick injuries and following high risk incidents up

Involvement in follow up of Infection Control outbreaks in the hospital

Previous experience of using Cohort Occupational Health software or similar would be an advantage although full training will be given. We operate a paperless office maximising the use of electronic technology which helps us to achieve responsive turnaround times.

Post Title: Occupational Health Nurse

Pay Band: 5

Hours: 30 hours per week

Location / Department: Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service, Newtown Road, Worcester

Accountable to: Occupational Health and Wellbeing Manager

Reports to: Occupational Health and Wellbeing Manager

Ref:

Key Working Relationships: : Internal: All Trust managers and staff; Other NHS Occupational Health and Wellbeing Services; Nursing & Medical Directorate; ICT Department; Health and Safety Manager & Infection Control External: Other non NHS Organisations; Clinical Commissioning Groups; Finance and Information Department; Planning and contracting.

Risk Assessment:

The post involves lone working, exposure to body fluids, VDU work and some manual handling i.e. carrying of equipment between sites and driving.

Job Purpose:

To support and contribute to the effective provision of a high quality Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service to the Trust and other public sector and private organisations.

To promote and maintain a systematic, holistic approach to occupational health and wellbeing provision, its implementation and evaluation.

To participate in identifying and maintaining a safe working environment and preventing ill health that may be associated with work.

The post holder would be able to gain experience and contribute by participating in the management of the service alongside more senior staff.

To work with private organisations and deliver high quality Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service within agreed service level specifications.

To contribute to an atmosphere conducive to learning, audit and the use of research based/best practice guidelines.

Key Duties:

To safely deliver allocated immunisation clinics at either the Working Well Centre Worcester or at the satellite clinics at Redditch, Kidderminster, or at various private company workplaces in and out of county.

To support colleagues in the co-ordination of the flu campaign.

To support colleagues in the co-ordination of projects relating to health and well-being promotion activities.

To attend meetings as OH representative, where appropriate.

To undertake pre placement screening.

To be involved in work related Health Surveillance programmes, and other general medicals required by employers. This will include tests such as; BMI calculation, B/P, Urinalysis, Vision Screening, Spirometry, Audiometry, HAVS,skin assessments and advice.

To attend training and administer vaccination programmes as per Written Instrustions.

To perform Venepuncture as per Trust policy and attend regular updating sessions.

To provide advice and support to employees via telephone or face to face following needle-stick injury/violence/musculoskeletal injury / sickness absence.

To be involved in delivering health education programmes in response to the public health agenda.

To be fully aware of the workplace and its risks to health, visit areas as and when required and send appropriate reports to Managers.

To liaise with other professional departments within the Trust, and be involved in Outbreak follow up with Infection Control.

To respond to general telephone queries from staff and managers, providing advice and support e.g. follow up of needle-stick injury, musculoskeletal incidents, and to instigate necessary referrals as required to counsellor, physiotherapist. To bring to the attention of the senior nurse should there be situations that require further support.

Maintenance of individual health records and recall systems.

To participate in clinical audit.

To be able to conduct workstation assessments when appropriate, and provide report to manager with recommendations.

Maintenance of confidential individual electronic health records and recall systems.
