Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Practitioner Psychologist to lead on the development and integration of a highly specialist applied psychology service for Children's epilepsy across Herefordshire and Worcestershire as part of a national pilot project.

We support around 500 children/young people with a diagnosis of epilepsy from birth to 18 years when they transition into adult care. Our teams are passionate about promoting and encouraging family and carers to be part of the young persons care, supporting them through what can be a very challenging and difficult journey working in partnership with education, childrens services, social care and all members of the MDT. We engage in the Epilepsy 12 national audit and aspire to achieve the Gold standard.

This role is integral to our aspiration to provide systematic mental health screening for every young person with access to a range of evidence based and bespoke psychological interventions. You will work alongside an Assistant Psychologist in order to achieve this goal, with extensive collaboration, support and supervision from the Professional Lead Psychologist.

We are passionate about offering psychological support to people in a variety of physical health areas and supporting our staff to be the best they can in delivering this care so flexible working is always supported where possible.

Main duties of the job

The post will have active links with, and support from the wider Physical Health Psychology Services across the ICB and benefit from training and learning from our national colleagues that developed the PAVES model (of screening) and MICE model (for psychological intervention).

Prior experience of working in paediatric services is not essential, the most important qualities are passion, good communication skills, working co-operatively and thinking creatively. This is a system-wide role with locality bases across the two counties so the successful candidate must be able to travel to meet the demands of the post . As a newly developing service the working environments will evolve over time.

We would be delighted to meet / speak with prospective applicants to discuss the post prior to the interview. Please contact Dr Heidi Napier, Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist on 07874 642290.
