We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic pharmacy technician to join the Sunrise Electronic Prescribing and Administration (EPMA) Team
on a 12 month fixed term contract to provide maternity cover.
The Trust has recently deployed its new Sunrise EPR system across its 3 sites,
and are currently in the process of implementing the EPMA functionality. You'll
be supporting the EPMA Senior Lead Pharmacist with its day-to-day management
and acting as the interface between IT and clinical colleagues.
The post offers a pharmacy technician with IT and operational skills the
opportunity to innovate and further develop the use of technology and
informatics to deliver our expanding digital agenda and quality improvement

Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities for the
post will include:
Under the leadership of the EPMA Senior Lead
Pharmacist provide expert support in the technical aspects of the development,
implementation and upgrading of the Trust-wide EPMA system.
Supporting and overseeing the building of the
new EPMA drug catalogue.
Ensuring the EPMA system works seamlessly for
the end user e.g. clinical workflows and decision support.
Assist when required the set up new medicines,
users, cost centres and consultants on the pharmacy stock management system and
EPMA system.
Delivering a program of digital transformation
alongside the wider EPR work stream and other clinical staff within the Digital
Directorate.
Support with staff training in the use of EPMA
across the Trust.
Helping to develop processes that will make
delivery of patient care more streamlined and efficient.
Helping in the implementation of any upgrades of
the EPMA, pharmacy stock management and other pharmacy IT systems, including
training and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Supporting the EPMA Senior Lead Pharmacist in
the future implementation of new developments within or related to the pharmacy
IT.
To work in partnership with the Pharmacy IT
Technician to deliver safe and effective digital medicines management.
Maintaining their professional competencies as
registered pharmacy technician.

The EPMA lead technicians
prime responsibility will be to:
Provide subject matter expert guidance on the
EPMA aspects of the Trusts Digital Care Record (DCR);
Implement the required medicine configurations and workflows within the DCR so
they are reproducible through testing to provide clinical assurance;
Help in the operational running and development
of the DCR EPMA functionality;
Be the primary contact for all EPMA issues across
the Trust;
Key Duties:
1. Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration
(EPMA) System
The post holder will be
responsible for:
Under the leadership of the EPMA Senior
Pharmacist provide expert support in the technical aspects of the development,
implementation and upgrading of the Trust-wide EPMA system;
Implement the required medicine configurations and workflows so they are reproducible
through testing to provide clinical assurance;
Ensuring
the EPMA system works seamlessly for the end user e.g. clinical workflows and decision support;
Ensure
the efficient operation and integration of the EPMA and pharmacy IT systems;
Produce
well defined and tested Business Continuity Plans in the case of systems
outages;
Developing
processes in systems or practice that will make delivery of patient care more
streamlined and efficient;
Supporting
the EPMA Senior Pharmacist in the future implementation of new developments
within or related to the pharmacy department
Assist when
required the set up new medicines ,
users, cost centres and consultants on the pharmacy stock management system and
EPMA system, ensuring they are correctly linked to directorates and
specialities to ensure effective and accurate costing of medicines use
Helping
in the implementation of any upgrades of the EPMA, pharmacy stock management
and other pharmacy IT systems, including training and updating of standard
operating procedures (SOPs).
Ensuring
that software and hardware is compliant with all relevant legislation, the
Trust Medicines Policy and Trust standards of corporate governance
Support
with staff training in the use of EPMA, all pharmacy IT systems allowing for
safe and appropriate use of pharmacy IT equipment
Entering
and checking the accuracy of new medicine entities, amendments and patient details on
the pharmacy and trust systems ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical
standards
Attend
system user group meetings as required.
2. Pharmacy Information reporting
The post holder will:
Support the EPMA and Pharmacy Informatics Team
Lead with provision of financial and operational information required for the
effective management of medicines .
Produce routine reports to capture and
communicate prescribing and administration information of patients to healthcare
professionals.
Produce ad hoc reports for auditing and other
purposes.
Analyse and interpret complex data and provide
it in a format that meets the requesters needs, linking with other Trust
activity information to provide greater insight into pharmacy data and using
external sources to provide efficiency and quality benchmarks
Devise and validate specialist reports to
provide prescribing and administration information which relate to key performance
indicators as directed by the Pharmacy Triumvirate Team.
3.
Management
The post holder will:
Support and deputise for the EPMA Senior Pharmacist in their absence in
relation to EPMA
Supervise pharmacy technicians, pharmacy
assistants, pre-registration pharmacy
technicians, Foundation training pharmacists as assigned
Be able to analyse and interpret complex data
using standard reporting tools e.g. MS Excel as well as providing it in a
format that meets the requestors needs.
4.
Clinical Governance and Clinical Audit:
The post-holder will:
Help design, develop and undertake audits to
improve EPMA system, pharmacy IT services and to ensure that all legal,
professional and service requirements are met.
Regularly participate in Trust wide Clinical
Audit encouraging other pharmacy staff in this area and liaising with other
specialties/departments as necessary.
Ensure errors, complaints and incidents are
managed within the Trusts guidelines.

Personal Development
The post

all times and also actively aware of Trust wide issues and trends.

Dispensary

The post holder
will:
Hold the nationally accredited checking
technician qualification.
On occasion provide the final pharmacy check
following SOPs on dispensed medication (accuracy check) for in-patient, take
home medicines and out-patient prescriptions for the WRH site including outside
hospitals and trusts ensuring that the prescription has been labelled and
assembled correctly by other members of pharmacy staff.
On occasion report errors or omissions made
during the dispensing process to dispensing staff in a constructive manner and
ensure the corrective action required is explained and supervised.
On occasion weigh, measure, count and make
medicines, and prepare medicines for administration to patients, where accuracy
is of the utmost importance.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
according to Trust procedure and policy.
Act in a professional, caring and responsible
manner at all times to ensure that the needs of patients and other customers of
the Pharmacy Service are met.
At all times act in accordance with the General
Pharmaceutical Council Standards for pharmacy professionals.
