Job summary
A developmental Vascular Nurse Specialist post has become available within our established Vascular Nurse Specialist team at WAHT. This is an exciting opportunity, providing time and support to attend University in addition to in-house training, to enable the successful applicant to develop into an independent Vascular Nurse Specialist.The successful applicant will start as Band 6, progressing to Band 7 upon completion of training.
The post holder will have a wide range of exposure to peripheral arterial disease and the management of this in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. By working in outpatient clinics, alongside consultants and independent vascular nurses, you will integrate into the MDT, becoming an key member of our hardworking team.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will provide a high standard of specialist care for patients, both inpatient and outpatient, suffering with vascular disease within Worcestershire.
The successful applicant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will offer specialist advice, acting as a resource for the wider MDT, in both primary and acute care settings.

- The post holder will be a key worker within the Vascular MDT and will work towards utilising advanced nurse practitioner nursing skills and clinical knowledge in the diagnosis and management of patients with vascular disease and its associated conditions. The post holder will work towards providing high level of expert nursing practice and advice and support for patients with vascular disease and related conditions in all care settings throughout the Trust.
Including:
- Clinical involvement and knowledge of the Vascular Surgery Specialty with evidence of relevant post basic study.
- Having a role in the development of services within the Vascular Surgery Speciality
- Working towards advanced nursing skills and nurse led initiatives and independent practice.
- Liaising closely with Consultant Surgeons, members of the multi-disciplinary team, Directorate Manager, Professional Head of Service, Matron, Ward Managers.
- Assessing and clerking emergency Vascular admissions in SDEC; liaising with the Vascular on call team to ensure appropriate diagnostics are requested and treatment plans are in place
- Demonstrate a high level of professional and autonomous nursing practice
- Use comprehensive and advanced knowledge and skills to plan care and implement specialist treatments for patients with vascular conditions.
- Assess the efficacy of treatment/intervention in ongoing episodes of patient care
- Act as an expert specialist nursing resource for patients with vascular conditions collaborating with all members of the multi-professional teams within both the Acute and Primary Care settings to facilitate a collaborative and cohesive approach to patient care
- Actively participate in service developments for patients with vascular disease and its associated conditions in association with the Vascular Lead Nurse; ensuring this encompasses the needs of the patients and is in line with standards of evidence based practice
- Assist in the provision of in-house training to be able to optimise care across both OPD and ward settings. Developing In-House training and education, alongside the Vascular Lead Nurse, for Trust staff to facilitate the optimal management for patients with vascular disease and conditions including leg ulceration and complex wounds within vascular services
