Job summary

Our busy coronary intervention service offers Elective, ACS and 24/7 primary PCI to Worcestershire and Herefordshire and runs alongside an EP and complex device service, a mature cardiac imaging department with CT, CMR and complex echo and Inpatient wards and coronary care unit on 2 sites.

The cardiology service is supported by strong teams of physiologists, CCU and cardiology ward nurses, cardiac assessment nurses and cardiac rehabilitation nurses, and by a county-wide nurse-led rapid-access chest pain clinic. A team of community and hospital-based heart failure nurse specialists provide an excellent clinical service and maintain close liaison with the hospital cardiology team.

Main duties of the job

This post is designed to offer experience in the full range of PCI for a candidate near completion of training. with exposure to intravascular ultrasound, OCT, Rotablation, bifurcation and LMS and CTO PCI. The post will also offer an opportunity for involvement and responsibility for recruitment to interventional cardiology trials.

During this one year post, the duties of the posts are care of the patients in or coming to the cardiac catheter suite. Diagnostic and invasive procedures under consultant supervision will include up to 8 cardiac catheter lab sessions, 1 outpatient clinic and a dedicated administration session.

The Trust works closely with 3 surgical centres, and the post holder will also prepare cases for and support regular multi-disciplinary meetings. Further opportunities can be available for cardiac imaging experience.

The department are actively involved in interventional cardiology trials run by three Cardiology Research Nurses, employed with funding from the CLRN, Oxford Research Group and local funding. The post holder will be expected to support the recruitment to current trials and have an interest in undertaking research.

The typical candidate should be near completion of an accredited Cardiology training programme, or post CCT, holding full MRCP, with a minimum of five years cardiology experience.

Support will be given to attend regional and national meetings of interest to an interventional cardiology fellow.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP (full)
  • ALS provider
  • Eligible for full GMC registration with Licence to Practise at the time of appointment
