Avon 3 is a 20 bedded mixed specialty medical unit at Worcester royal hospital.
Our specialties are Infectious diseases and Endocrinology
We aim to provide an individualized and supportive environment for patients in which to deliver this specialized care for acutely unwell patients.
The successful candidate will learn to co-ordinate and prioritize care in a busy environment, work within a multi professional team of Consultants, Doctors, Pharmacists, Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist and Specialist Nurses. The ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team is essential.
There is so much to learn while working on Avon 3, a busy but supportive environment with a vibrant and positive team to support and guide your development. Plans are in motion to develop a high dependency unit on Avon 3, this will provide additional learning opportunities with specialized clinical skill for example ABG and Midline insertion.

Main duties of the job
On Avon 3 we desire a high level of skill in venepuncture and cannulation, IV administration and a good level of knowledge in antibiotic usage and stewardship as well as PICC, midline and central line care (which all can be trained in if required).You will also need to have a good endocrine knowledge with a good understanding of the safe use of insulin.
You will be a highly motivated forward-thinking professional who can demonstrate the ability to lead and support staff in a proactive and effective way.In return we will offer you excellent learning and developmental opportunities; we will support your personal growth through regular personal development planning, clinical skills development, external courses for example ECG interpretation and preceptorship for newly qualified.
You will be expected to work as part of a team, follow up to date infection prevention and control practice and providing evidence based care to deliver a high standard service to our patients and supporting families and carers.
Experience in Acute Medicine is desirable but essential, newly qualified nurses welcome.
