Occupational Therapist - Eating Disorders Service

Job summary

Our friendly and growing team is ready to welcome a new team member who will share our passion for improving access and the quality of care for people with eating disorders.

We are looking for a dynamic, creative, highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who has a demonstrable interest in working with clients suffering with an eating disorder and developing OT provision.

You will receive regular professional and management supervision and will be supported to develop skills in this specialist area. Initially you would be able to work closely alongside a more experienced member of staff to support you to develop skills and gain confidence if eating disorders is a new field for you.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist recovery-focussed OT assessments, interventions and formulation for patients referred for OT.
  • To apply a variety of treatment modalities to meet the needs of patients in individual or group format, utilising clinical reasoning processes to determine the most appropriate setting for intervention with specific reference to activities of daily living as they are impacted by eating disorders.
  • Collaborate in the delivery of a group therapy programme and modification of aspects of the environment to empower and facilitate optimal functional performance.
  • To undertake treatment planning, communicating and negotiating treatment plans, review and liaise with formal agencies and extended support networks (where appropriate).
  • To communicate agreed treatment/care plans to multi-disciplinary team.

Essential

  • Diploma / Degree (Bsc / Msc) in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of post graduate Study
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent enhanced by short specialist courses, and experience to post graduate diploma level or equivalent
  • Good standard of written and spoken English
  • High standard of education

Desirable

  • Accredited fieldwork Educator
  • Member of BAOT
  • Additional relevant qualifications/training e.g. CBT, counselling, emotional modulation, motivational theory etc.

Knowledge

Essential

  • College of Occupational Therapist (RCOT) Code of Professional Conduct
  • Knowledge of eating disorders theory and practice
  • Knowledge of risks that are particularly pertinent to eating disorders
