This is an exciting opportunity to be involved within a small dynamic team of community podiatrists caring for patients in West Essex.

We are looking for an experienced, well-motivated, forward thinking Podiatrist who has an extensive knowledge with wound care to join our friendly, progressive team.
You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a team, have excellent clinical and communication skills which are essential as you will be providing a quality service to 'High Risk' patients in a variety of clinical settings.
Staff are well supported and need to flexible to meet the needs of the service.
We have specialist clinics in Diabetes, Wound care, Nail Surgery and Musculoskeletal Podiatry.
We also work closely with Podiatric Surgery, Patient Appliances and Tissue Viability and have a Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Team based at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The post holder will provide clinical and professional knowledge to the podiatry team.

Main duties of the job
As an advanced specialist podiatrist you will act as an autonomous practitioner providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment option and evaluation of a complex nature in diabetes and wound care.
Working both in the community including patients' homes and hospital settings as an independent autonomous professional and managing the departmental caseload, excising judgement in the initiation and management of change. To be responsible for the treatment given to patients on the caseload, but to be prepared to seek and accept professional support.
As an advanced specialist podiatrist use advanced knowledge to assess and treat complex cases in a holistic way and motivate others to work in a similar way, providing an advanced resource advice and support for junior staff .

ROLE SUMMARY
To work as a specialist podiatrist within the team and ensure a high level of quality of patient care is delivered, using the most appropriate skills and techniques to improve and maintain the quality of life of patients with foot problems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and tools.
Be able to work on own initiative.
To develop and maintain skills required to practice.
Undertake long periods of concentration which are required when assessing, examining and communicating with patients in order to develop and provide treatment plans in clinical and patient home settings.
Undertake physical assessment of patients in clinic or the home setting, involving specific patient movement and handling, in order to accurately undertake assessment.
The post holder will be required to travel across West Essex as the need arises. And will at all times work alone, independently and as part of a team.
Maintain competency and knowledge and utilise risk management to maintain safe practice.
To participate in new patient assessment clinics, nail surgery and ulcer clinics.
Responsible for maintaining accurate and appropriate standards of documentation.
To work in close collaboration with the specialist multidisciplinary diabetic foot team, specialist teams, GPs, and other health care professionals.
To communicate complex information with patients, colleagues, administrative staff and other health care professionals. This may involve a range of verbal and non- verbal communication tools.
To demonstrate highly developed skills of reasoning and persuasion when communicating with patients, relatives, carers when there are barriers to understanding. Considerable negotiation, persuasive skills and empathy and sensitivity are required. e.g discussion re lower limb amputation.
Communicate highly sensitive condition related information to patients and carers.
Deal sensitively with patients or cares who have a high level of anxiety and aggression caused by their condition/problems or their responsibilities.
Effectively adapt communication techniques according to the individual needs of the patient e.g. the patient may have a learning disability, mental health problems, a confessional state, neurological condition or may not speak English as their first language
Respond to telephone calls to the service, providing information, advice, reassurance and support to callers.
To report adverse incidents in line with Trust policy.
To provide peer support to all health care professionals Trust-wide with regard to all aspects of podiatry care and management.
Act as an effective role model to all healthcare professionals and as an expert resource on the management of foot health.
To act professionally in relation to customer care and contribute to investigations/responses to any complaints in line with Trust policy.
To work in accordance with the departments standards and professional codes of conduct.
To demonstrate and apply a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
To ensure the necessary precautions are adhered to when transferring information, only disclosing patient identifiable information in line with Caldicott and the Data Protection.
Ensure safeguarding and mental capacity issues are recognised and dealt with appropriately.
To work within health and safety requirements and local guidelines.
To have working knowledge of IT skills working towards improvement of skills for the improvement of the service.
