EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in General Adult to provide clinical leadership for the assessment and management of general adult inpatients admitted to Hadleigh Unit, PICU which is a 15 bedded Psychiatry Intensive care unit. The post holder will also be a lead in providing medical leadership for flow and capacity.

Job description

Job responsibilities

For Hadleigh PICU:

To provide clinical leadership for the assessment and management of general adult PICU inpatients admitted to Hadleigh ward.

Typically, the part-time consultant will be responsible for a third of the current bed occupancy on the ward.

Currently there are 15 beds on Hadleigh PICU and the post holder will be typically responsible for up to 5 patient, admitted from across Essex. The consultant will conduct weekly ward reviews, any Care Programme Approach meetings, any other ad hoc reviews, seclusion/segregation reviews during working hours, etc.

Take part in the out of hours on-call rota.

To provide medical leadership into the flow and capacity team as highlighted above.

To provide clinical expertise into the management of complex cases.

To provide clinical leadership to the teams they work with.

To provide input into assessment of referrals/admissions.

To participate in care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.

To maintain liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies.

To perform RC input to aid Mental Health Act implementation on the ward.

To follow principles of Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership working.

For Flow and Capacity:

The medical Lead for flow and capacity aspect of the job includes;

Delivery of a cohesive pathway and to monitor capacity and report risks where beds cannot be identified

Attendance at meetings and engagement with discharge co-ordinators and bed management team

Ensure robust system of pre-admission assessments and reviewing the purpose of admission to ensure that patients are treated in the clinically appropriate environments

To work with the flow team to review all clinically ready for discharge patients and ensuring robust systems to minimize delays in throughput

Lead weekly Consultant flow and capacity meetings

Work collaboratively with system partners to ensure consistency in service delivery and best practice approaches

To use evidence-based approach to review patients who are re-admitted within 28 days and to support in development of individualized management plans
