The role of the Deputy Ward Manager/Mental Health Site Officer is an integral part of the support structure of Essex Partnership University Foundation NHS Trust. Performing the duties in accordance with these procedural guidelines will assist in managing risk, increase communication and manage any untoward events until a Senior Member of staff arrives or gives direction.
The Role will be overseen by the designated Ward Manager and Clinical Manager/Matron.
The role will involve both Site Officer duties as well as Deputy Ward Manager duties on an inpatient adult acute ward.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the holistic assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care for clients with Mental Health needs referred to the service. At all times upholding and teaching the Recovery model and reminding mindful of all physical health needs and social inclusion ensuring that anti stigma is upheld.

The post holder works under the overall supervision of the Ward Manager, but is required to undertake the duties of the post without direct supervision. They are required to teach of other nursing and non-nursing staff allocated to their particular area. The post holder is designated as the person to take charge regularly in the absence of the Ward Manager, with prior in agreement with that person, undertaking defined managerial responsibility for the ward. In addition, the post holder will be expected to take a key role as lead on the clinical practice within the area, will demonstrate good leadership skills whilst ensuring robust standards of care are in place, including physical, mental health and social needs ensuring theses are implemented and evaluated.
