Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic psychology graduate to work alongside the psychology staff at ESTEP (Essex Support and Treatment of Early Psychosis) in the South West Essex team. This post has been created to support the delivery of interventions for family and carer's of service users who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.
ESTEP offers an Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service. The team work with individuals between 14-65years old who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis. EIP services are based on NICE-recommended interventions. These activities are often supported with family and carer interventions, recovery coordination, social prescribing and education/employment support.
The role also offers different opportunities to collaborate with service users and the wider MDT in terms of community based projects. The post-holders should have a passion for developing their clinical and research skills, and be keen to work flexibly and in a variety of settings. Your work will be closely supervised by an experienced psychologist and you will therefore also gain experience of the supervisory process. This is an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate aiming to secure a permanent Assistant Psychologist post and undertake doctoral postgraduate training in clinical or counselling psychology in the future. The service has an excellent track record of assistant psychologists securing a place on Clinical Psychology courses.
Main duties of the job
As an Assistant Psychologist you will support and enhance the professional psychological care of families of individuals who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis, supporting psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of a senior practitioner psychologist according to a plan agreed within the overall framework of the Trust's policies and procedures. This will be through both direct and indirect work. Depending on experience, the responsibilities of the job will involve assisting in completing complex assessments, (including structured interviews and psychometrics) and communicating the outcome of these to clients, team colleagues and other professionals. There will be the opportunity for assisting in and conducting individual, family and group interventions, consultation, and staff training. The post holder will need to be organised in order to assist the psychology team in managing referrals and collecting and evaluating outcomes of interventions.
