Job summary

To contribute to the Adult Community Psychological Service and specifically the Southend Rough Sleeping Mental Health Team by supporting qualified psychologists and psychotherapists in the undertaking and delivery of a range of clinical and research based tasks. There will be a key role in completing service level projects as part of quality and developmental initiatives. Responsibilities will include liaison with allied professionals and partner agencies contributing to working with people rough sleeping or with a history of rough sleeping. Remaining time will comprise scoping national practice and working with an Assistant Psychologist in the South East Essex Trauma Alliance to promote trauma informed practice throughout service delivery. All work will take place under the direction and management of an experienced psychologist/psychotherapist. There will be opportunities to develop a clinically facing role under the close supervision. There will be a requirement to complete clinically related administration.

Main duties of the job

Research

  1. To assist in the development and implementation of new clinical initiatives.
  2. To undertake data collection and related analysis of findings. To focus on outcome measures and outcome reporting on behalf of the service.
  • To be able to use SPSS and other IT programmes in the analysis of research data.
  1. To undertake searches of evidence based literature and research related to both the outlined treatment initiatives and the clinical practice of psychologists within Adult Mental Health and specifically in the context of rough sleeping.

Clinical

  1. To develop engagement and motivational interviewing approaches to harness working relationships with people rough sleeping.
  2. To support colleagues across the rough sleepers network to engage, assess and review the needs of people in the rough sleeping community living with complex mental health needs.
  3. To assist in the development and facilitation of pre-treatment groups as appropriate.
  4. To assist in the formulation of care plans involving the psychological treatment/management of people accessing rough sleeping services under the supervision of a qualified professional.
  5. To champion and deliver trauma informed values throughout the service and across stakeholder engagement.

Essential

  • Degree from a BPS accredited course in psychology (2:1 and above).
  • Entitlement to Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Graduate level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practical within the clinical fields of psychology.

Desirable

  • Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, health practice and/or research design and analysis.
  • Knowledge of dual diagnosis needs and drug and alcohol use.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with mental health problems.

Skills / Experience
