An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time 8a Maternity Cover until January 2024 in our Transitions Psychology Team. The post will be based in Basildon and involves working with teams all over South Essex. As a new Service there is opportunity to take on various service development and research opportunities and would present a great chance for a Band 7 who wanted experience of a more senior role.
The Transitions Psychology team are a group of practitioners (psychologists and psychotherapists) using evidence based interventions in a trauma informed and user-led approach in order to reduce repeat or long term admissions to psychiatric hospitals. The team was developed following a pilot project that showed a significant, sustained reduction in inpatient admissions, highlighting that flexible, integrative and long-term support helps clients live more meaningfully within the community.
Practitioners are working across inpatient, crisis and community teams within each locality of the trust, allowing for a whole systems approach, unencumbered by usual service divides. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work both directly and indirectly with Service Users who are requiring additional support in times of transition, most commonly from inpatient to community services, though the scope of the role is mouldable for the right applicant.
Main duties of the job
The team is developing under the guidance of a Consultant Psychologist & Principal Clinical Psychologist, and as such attracts opportunity for role and service development, service user involvement and audit/service evaluation with a small but supportive and specialised team. The team currently offer interventions for complex trauma and psychosis (Embodied, Systemic, Psychodynamic approaches, CBT) and would welcome applicants with therapeutic interests that could further improve this offer. Interventions are integrative/attachment formulation-led, and the service allows for long-term and intensive work as needed.
The team are also developing close working relationships with both inpatient, crisis & community teams, and the role would offer opportunities to teach, train, consult and supervise where appropriate. The team supports the most complex service users seen in our trust, and as such excellent clinical, interpersonal, team working and risk assessment skills are required.
Our Service Users usually arrive with diagnoses of personality disorder, psychosis, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder; we collaboratively formulate their difficulties in an integrative way, taking added complexities including dual diagnosis, social and economic stressors, attachment/interpersonal difficulties and complex trauma experiences into account.
