Job summary

We have recently established the Patient and Staff Safety Incident Support (PSSI) Team within the Psychological Services Directorate to provide support for staff following exposure to potentially traumatic and/or distressing circumstances at work. As part of this team we are looking for a forward-thinking, reflective and compassionate Assistant Psychologist.

Your main role will be to work with experienced Psychology colleagues within the PSSI team to help coordinate a bespoke staff support service following patient safety incidents. You will also be part of the wider staff wellbeing hub - Here for You. This exciting post provides an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic and dedicated team that adopts a person-centred, whole-system, proactive and trauma-informed approach to staff support, enabling colleagues to sustain fulfilling, productive and purposeful working lives.

Main duties of the job

The Assistant Psychologist role will play a pivotal part in the organisation of staff support interventions following potentially traumatic incidents at work. Your role will be varied and will include publicising the service, responding to initial enquiries, coordinating response offers, co-facilitating training for staff, some direct therapeutic work as well as contributing to monitoring and auditing the service and conducting service-related evaluations. You will have weekly supervision from a psychologist enabling a rich experience of the supervisory process.

The post-holder should aspire to develop their evaluation, research and clinical skills, and be keen to work flexibly. This is an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate aiming to secure an Assistant Psychologist post and undertake doctoral postgraduate training in clinical or counselling psychology in the future.

We are a newly established service that provide psychological support to EPUT staff who have been affected by potentially traumatic incidents at work. The assistant psychologist role is an integral part of the team; acting as the face of the service and helping qualified psychology colleagues to coordinate and deliver a responsive and attuned service to staff.

The role includes reviewing and responding to incident reports, triaging staff support needs and mobilising support responses for services, teams and individuals. You will be required to maintain a team database and complete audit projects as part of quality and developmental initiatives. A key aspect of the role involves the use of systemic thinking to formulate and contribute to psychologically informed interventions within the organisation; including some opportunities to work jointly with qualified psychology colleagues to deliver staff training and workshops. There will be some opportunities for delivering structured psychological therapy. There will be a requirement to complete related administration. All work will take place under the supervision and management of an experienced Psychologist. This is a predominately remote role with some requirement to travel to EPUT sites.   • Entitlement to Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Experience in working in health related setting/s.

  • Graduate level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practical within the clinical fields of psychology.
