Job summary

ROLE SUMMARY:

The service is currently growing in line with the NHS Long Term Plan and we are looking to recruit someone who will work as part of the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service, supporting clinical staff, women and their families. The post holder will also undertake Physical Health Checks to include ECGs, phlebotomy and any other tests required.

The Service operates across the county, with office bases pan Essex. Women are seen in children's centres, their homes and community settings, as well as hospitals on occasion. The team provides assessment and intervention to women experiencing or at an increased chance of experiencing moderate to severe mental health conditions during pregnancy and up to 12 months postpartum. The service works closely with Maternity, Health Visiting, GP's, statutory community services and 3rd sector organisations.

The support worker will undertake baseline and ongoing physical health checks and will be able to engage with women and their families, supporting them in a co-constructed manner, focusing on desired future goals and solution building.

Main duties of the job

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

In addition to the above duties you will also be expected to perform the below key activities in line with your job role;

  • Complete mandatory training in line with Trust policy and procedures
  • To participate in the staff appraisal process and to undertake for any staff you manage
  • To keep yourself updated on all matters relating to Trust policy
  • To provide management supervision where appropriate
  • You will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering services; providing a 7-day a week, 24-hours a day service for 365 days a year working shifts, where appropriate and operationally required.

You will develop strong links with carers and all organisations promptly from the point of initial contact and support the service user to develop a co-produced management plan that allows them to contain their current crisis and build on existing skills and community links to further support their future management and wellbeing.

The support worker will be supervised by a perinatal clinical lead and will be closely supported as necessary in the management of risks and the delivery of care by the team. The support worker will have clear pathways of escalation and will work within the bounds of existing EPUT policies and procedures as required.

  • To undertake baseline physical health assessments to women at defined intervals. This will include ECG, phlebotomy, side effect monitoring and physical health and wellbeing assessments.
  • To maintain stock levels and ensure physical health equipment is stored and checked in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • To readily identify when physical health assessments are outside of normal ranges by alerting senior practitioners and medical staff.
  • To provide an assessment/intervention to ensure individuals are appropriately supported and facilitate links with specialist services as required.
  • To be actively involved with women, their families and perinatal clinical staff in the planning and delivery of services to facilitate the individuals recovery.
  • To support in partnership with clinical staff and service users in the planning and implementation of care.
  • Support women to access community based activities.
  • Facilitate and support perinatal groups alongside other staff when required.
  • Provide information on health promotion.
  • Support clinical staff in the monitoring of womens mental health, progress, level of functioning and alert the appropriate staff involved in the womans care.
  • Provide support women and their families with managing their medication including side effects.
  • Provide support alongside the wider team to women and their families who are in crisis.
  • Support women throughout their recovery through providing structured interventions.
  • To liaise closely with the full range of services within the local community; statutory and non-statutory services.
