Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Team Manager (Band 7) for Biggleswade CMHT in Central Bedfordshire.

You will be responsible for the day to day clinical leadership of the team, and working alongside the Operational Manager and other senior team members work to ensure the safe and effective management of all operations of the team.

You will support clinical staff to take complex decisions regarding the planning and development of care, and have good knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Safeguarding, the Mental Health Act and other associated frameworks and legislation.

Your role will be to ensure the service being provided by the team is well organised, evidence based, recovery focused, socially inclusive and person centred with clear clinical outcomes.

This post is looking for someone who cares and would suit someone who is an experienced practitioner who is considering whether to take their first steps into management.

Main duties of the job

As the Manager for the team you will be responsible for the day to day management and leadership of the team, working with the Operational Manager to ensure safe and effective implementation of service developments relevant to the team. You will be responsible fornsuring safe and effective management of all operations in the team, managing the core team responsibilities and trouble shooting operational problems.

As well as the day to day leadership of the team, you will also take a lead on making complex decisions regarding the planning and development of programmes of care..

Your role will be to ensure the service provided by the team is well organised, evidence based, recovery focused, socially inclusive and person centered, with clear clinical outcomes.

You will be required to work closely with the Service Manager and Operational Manager to develop the team in line with commissioner requirements and Trust objectives, consulting all key stakeholders, and positively reinforcing the expectations of the organisation through collaborative and dynamic management and leadership that is both supportive and encouraging in nature to enable the team to adapt to key changes smoothly. You will have a lead role in the development of core team policies and local operating procedures.

Job responsibilities

You will have management responsibility for continually improving the quality and performance of the team:

  • To support the continued efficient and effective management of the team, providing leadership and supervision to a multi-disciplinary staff group. The post holder will be responsible for the management of the team caseload, overseeing referrals and the allocation of service users to care coordinators / clinical staff,
  • With authorized signatory and budgetary responsibility you will need to achieve financial balance in the team, making the best use of your financial resources to achieve positive clinical outcomes for service users and carers.
  • As a professional lead you will make complex judgments about plans required for packages of care, ensuring the service provided by the team is well organised, evidence based, recovery focused, socially inclusive and person centred, with clear clinical outcomes and time limited interventions.
  • You will take a lead role in maintaining team systems and processes for the effective operation of the team, including audits in relation to clinical effectiveness and quality and the development of actions plans in light of findings.
  • You will ensure the physical environment is conducive to the delivery of high quality care by ensuring there are clear systems for:

Undertaking assessments in safe and secure environments

Ensuring accessible systems are in place including RiO, In-phase, Summary Care Record, etc.

Arranging for the replacement or repair of equipment and furnishing

Undertaking safe lone working in the community

Liaison with relevant organisations in satellite bases to ensure a clean, safe and secure environment.

As a line Manager for care coordinators and junior members of the team you will support the management of human resources meeting the Trust targets for recruitment, retention, sickness levels, agency usage, supervision and appraisals.

  • To ensure staff have the training and development required to meet best practice standards and achieve positive clinical outcomes for service users and carers.
    • To take responsibility to act using professional judgment and effective problem solving when decisions have to be made in highly complex and challenging situations.
    • To have an overview at all times of the team, and to work creatively and independently with staff to achieve the required standards and to regularly review the quality and performance of the teams service delivery, both formally and informally.

    To have an overview of all patient placements and ensure they are reviewed in line with commissioner requirements.

  • To advise the Operational Manager on issues that arises with regard to service delivery, quality and performance, and to provide solutions to any problem areas.
  • As a professional lead for the team you will support the delivery and development of the service, providing written reports, reviews and recommendations.

  • To ensure that effective clinical and operational management and risk management processes are in place in your team.

  • To ensure your team has robust quality governance arrangements in place for all service users on the caseload, with a particular focus on excellent assessments, risk assessments, risk management plans, care plans, and care plan reviews.
