Podiatrist

Job summary

The post holder will provide footcare treatment to patients assessed suitablewithin a hospital setting; community clinical settings, and patients' own homes, as well as providing clerical and clinical support duties as required.

The Podiatrist will report directly to a Senior Podiatrist, who has supervisory responsibility for the Podiatrist. The Senior Podiatrist reports to the Podiatry Clinical Lead based within the Podiatry Department.

Main duties of the job

We focus on a treatment planning approach to manage patient care and maximise patient input into their care, to enable us to effectively and efficiently manage caseloads

  • You will need to have good psychomotor skills and demonstrate your ability to carry out podiatry treatment including debriding callus and enucleating corns.
  • You will need to be able to identify the cause of the foot problems that patients present with, so that treatment plans can be created and where clinically appropriate a discharge plan be be developed.
  • You will need to be able to apply your musculoskeletal knowledge.
  • You will need to be able to write thorough, contemporaneous notes.
  • You will need to be able to provide education to patients/ their carers.
  • You will need to be able to write letters to referrers and, where applicable, onward referrals.

The post holder will be expected in implement individual care programmes for patients following assessment by the podiatrist and modify thereafter according to patient and clinical circumstances within their remit.

The post holder will be required to undertake moderate repetitive physical effort to control and position the foot and lower limb in order to perform intricate clinical footcare requiring precision hand eye co-ordination over prolonged periods. In domiciliary settings this may require the podiatry assistant to adapt to work in less than ideal conditions of light and cleanliness.
