Job summary

East London NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to be recruiting an Associate Director of Finance (Financial Services). The post holder will be an integral member of the East London NHS Foundation Trust senior finance team. They will require good experience in technical accounting, financial control and an ability to lead the Financial Services team.

We need someone who can hit the ground running, with significant experience in a senior leadership role and the ability to provide sound advice to the Senior Leadership Team and Executive Team

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the CFO the Associate Director of Finance (Financial Services) will lead and manage the overall Financial Services function including the delivery of statutory financial duties, planning, forecasting, alongside supporting the Trust's strategic aims and objectives. The successful applicant will lead the financial reporting and engagement across the organisation through exceptional business partnering. This role will aim to deliver insightful financial analysis, critical organisational challenge and innovative, agile problem solving.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and motivate the Financial Services team.
  • Oversee technical accounting, ensuring compliance with IFRS, NHS reporting standards, and complex areas such as PFI, leasing and VAT.
  • Deliver Annual Accounts and contributions to the Annual Report; ensure robust year-end processes, reconciliations, financial controls and audit compliance.
  • Leading on capital accounting, planning and forecasting, providing expert advice on the accounting treatment of capital schemes and business cases.
  • Act as key contact for internal/external audit; coordinate audit actions and support Board and Audit Committee reporting.
  • Maintain and strengthen financial control frameworks, governance, assurance processes and policy implementation across the trust.
  • Manage cash resources, optimise investment income, ensure compliance with the Better Payment Practice Code and maintain strong credit control.
  • Oversee the management, control and administration of charitable funds, ensuring any expenditure falls within the terms of the funds and the requirements of statute, Charity Commission and HMRC requirements.
