Job summary
The Eating Disorders Intensive Pathway (EDIP) Support Worker is a vital member of the multidisciplinary team, providing practical and therapeutic community-based support to young people with severe eating disorders and their families. The role involves meal support, monitoring physical health, and empowering families to actively manage recovery at home as an alternative to inpatient care.

Job responsibilities
- Provide interventions in the community near where CYP live
- Provide interventions that help CYP achieve safe nutritional and hydration intake, including NG feeding support if necessary
- Provide intensive family support (including best practice interventions such as the Maudsley Family Intensive Group Model)
- Empower families and parents to actively support CYPs recovery
- Support CYPs weight restoration and resumption of control over eating
- Increase CYP autonomy to maintain a healthy weight and positive body image
- Identify emotional triggers for eating disorders and provide appropriate psychosocial interventions
- Facilitate meaningful involvement of young people and carers in shaping the EDIP service (People Participation Champion role)
- Act as a liaison between service users, carers, and the EDIP team to inform service planning and improvement
- Work collaboratively with community hospital-at-home paediatric and acute paediatric services, supporting feeding when needed
- Establish effective pathway interfaces with community services, inpatient services, and social services
- Support transition planning into adult services when required

Education Training and Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent mental health experience
- Good standard of education with proven literacy and numeracy skills.
Desirable
- European Computer Driving License (ECDL)
- Training in phlebotomy, taking physical health measurements, or equivalent clinical skills (to assist with medical monitoring tasks).
- Any formal training in facilitation, community engagement or co-production (for example, a workshop or course on running focus groups or engaging young people).
Previous Experience
Essential
- Previous experience working in mental health services
- Previous experience working with/ supporting young people in mental health services or a similar role
- Experience of working with a multi-disciplinary team
- Positive attitude towards working with people with mental health problems
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues and the ability to integrate into employment policies and practices
- Experience of supporting people to have a voice
Desirable
- Experience of working with children or within the Safeguarding Children framework
- Experience of supporting young people experiencing episodes of heightened stress/distress
