High Intensity CBT Trainee - Band 6

Job summary

Are you an experiencedmental health professional or social care worker with a recognised professional qualification working in a mental health setting? Have you considered training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)?

Newham Talking Therapies (NTT) is now recruiting 2 High Intensity CBT Trainee as part of the Talking Therapies Services.

Applications are invited from qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychological Therapists, Mental Health Nurses, Psychotherapists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners to apply for the one year full-time post graduate diploma course based at Royal Holloway.

Main duties of the job

The trainee CBT position includes undertaking the PG Diploma in High Intensity CBT at Royal Holloway, and you can find out more about this role by visiting the Royal Holloway website. Trainees will spend 2 days at university and then 3 days in service working with clients with a range of difficulties.

Shortlisted candidates will be offered an interview during early January 2026 with our service and successful candidates will be offered a conditional offer of employment. As part of this conditional offer, candidates will be required to have an academic meeting with Royal Holloway staff mid-January.

Please note candidates who are Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners must have 2 years post qualification experience at the start of the course (March 2026). Furthermore, we are unable to accept candidates who have already undertaken High Intensity CBT IAPT funded training.

Essential

  • A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy. Qualified psychological Wellbeing Practitioners must have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
  • OR ? Evidence using the career framework of training in mental health and experience working in a stepped care service for anxiety and depression
