Job summary
The post holder will provide foot care treatment to patients assessed suitable by the Podiatrist within a hospital setting; community clinical settings, and patients' own homes, as well as providing clerical and clinical support duties as required. The podiatry assistant will report directly to a senior podiatrist who has supervisory responsibility for the podiatry assistant. The senior podiatrist reports to the podiatry clinical lead based within the podiatry department
Main duties of the job
To implement foot care treatment plans for patients referred to Podiatry Assistant Clinics by the podiatrist and maintain adequate records of such treatments.
To make clinical judgements, regarding onward referral for further clinical investigation and treatment. To manage the discharge of patients under their care, recognizing conditions outside their scope of practice, and to make the appropriate referrals.
To undertake home visiting of patients assessed suitable by the podiatrist. Organizing and prioritizing patient caseload, determining best treatment options and modifying care plans according to needs for patients within scope of practice.
Undertake clinical treatment as agreed with the podiatrist requiring good manual dexterity and skill to manipulate podiatry instruments.
To undertake the preparation of clinical equipment for nail surgery and other clinical sessions.
To assist in nail surgery and sessions to include post-operative nail re-dressings as required.
o be familiar with Health and Safety procedures and adhere toguidance including wearing of face masks to protect against nail dust hazard during clinical treatment.
To communicate effectively and liaise with the patient and carers/colleagues to ensure effective advice and treatment can be given, overcoming communication barriers on matters relating to management and treatment of patients.
