Job summary
Newham, one of London's most impoverished boroughs, consistently ranks among the ten most deprived areas in the country. Notably, Newham has the highest rates of psychosis among all London boroughs, and it consistently ranks among the top ten regions in the country for referrals to mental health services related to psychosis.
The challenge for early intervention in psychosis services is not simply a matter of meeting the significant demand for timely and evidence-based interventions. Equally, it involves developing a sustainable model of care that collaborates with service users and families, harnessing and leveraging the collective power of the broader community and other community-based services.
Newham's early intervention in psychosis service aims to recruit psychologists who are not only capable of being effective therapists but are willing and capable of collaborating across all levels of care.
Therefore, in addition to delivering NICE-recommended interventions, including cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp) and family interventions for psychosis, psychologists are required to collaborate effectively with the numerous services NEIS interfaces with and with members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a unified approach grounded in both diagnosis and clinical formulations.
If you believe you are the right person for the job, we encourage you to get in touch and visit the team to find out more about the exciting developments here in Newham.
Main duties of the job
Psychologists are an integral component of the multidisciplinary team, collaborating to proactively provide psychological interventions to service users and their families and carers.
Therefore alongside delivering CBTp and family interventions, psychologists support the team in understanding and processing the often challenging relationship dynamics that arise when working with individuals experiencing psychosis through reflective practice, case consultation, training and supervision.
About us
Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
