Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adults, for old age psychiatry inpatient care, Cazaubon ward, East Ham Care Centre, Shrewsbury Road E7 8QP
This 10PA position became available after the previous consultant retired.
The appointee will have clinical responsibility for the care of acute elderly male and female inpatients from Tower Hamlets, Newham, City and Hackney on Cazaubon Ward.

Main duties of the job
This full time post is inpatient based with an excellent, stable and well-resourced multidisciplinary inpatient team in Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health (Cazaubon ward). There is good support from a collegiate consultant body within the older adults' teams and TH Directorate.
Cazaubon ward is based in East Ham Care Centre and provides inpatient care for older adults with both organic and functional illness, with a focus on dementia care. Inpatients are from Tower Hamlets, Newham, City and Hackney. This post is for a full time consultant covering the 19 beds on Cazaubon ward. The ward aims for 85% occupancy but can be occupied up to the 19 beds.
The ward has a ward manager and shares a matron. There are specialist diabetes nursing, dietician, tissue viability, physiotherapy and speech & language therapy input onto the ward. The baseline staffing on the ward is 2 RMN's and 3 Social therapists during the day, 2 RMN's & 2 Social Therapists at night with the flexibility to increase staff with increase in acuity/demands. There are also 2 full time qualified OT's, 1 Full time OT assistant, and 0.5 WTE therapist time including psychology, art, and music. A discharge co-ordinator is also employed and covers three older adult mental health wards.

Essential
- Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council and holding license to practice.
- Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register for Psychiatry (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT). If appropriate GMC registration duly revalidated and holding license to practice.
Desirable
- Higher Degree
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register for Old Age Psychiatry (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT)
Knowledge and Experience

- Good experience of working in old age psychiatry and inpatient psychiatry services, especially in the care and assessment of complex physical co-morbidity
- Experience and knowledge of psychopharmacology in older people.
