Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Innovate: Steer cutting-edge research within ELFS. Your expertise will be pivotal in promoting ELFS as a research-active organization and guiding our research strategy.
  • Collaborate and Influence: Work closely with senior managers, professional leads, and academic partners to integrate research into clinical practice, ensuring ELFT offers top-tier care.
  • Drive Growth: Drive the expansion of ELFS's research portfolio, aligning with the Trust's strategies and clinical needs. You'll be the linchpin in forging and expanding relationships with academic and commercial entities.
  • Mentor and Inspire: Oversee and nurture our junior medical staff and multidisciplinary team members. Your guidance will be instrumental in their growth as sub-researchers.
  • Lead by Example: Serve as the Principal Investigator on key studies, showcasing your expertise and setting a high standard for research excellence.
  • Resource Management: As the budget holder for the Research Unit, your strategic acumen in resource allocation will ensure optimal investment in research projects.

  • First degree or equivalent experience
  • Educated to Masters or equivalent and further specialist training to Doctorate level or equivalent

Desirable

  • Demonstrable specialist knowledge and experience of Research Governance and International Conference on Harmonisation/ Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP) to diploma/certificate level.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a research/clinical environment (NHS, University or industry) in a senior post, management of staff and/ or complex systems and processes
  • Experience in strategy and policy development (S/I)
  • Financial planning and budgeting experience. Experience of managing complex financial budgets and relationships - e.g., Trust, academic partners, grant-making bodies
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in strategy and policy developmen

Desirable

  • Wide experience of liaising and negotiating with senior academic, clinical and management staff in the same and partner organisations.

Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of statutory regulations and legal considerations regarding R&D.
  • Expert knowledge of the principles of good clinical practice in research
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
