Clinical / Counselling Psychologist or CBT Therapist - Band 7, Tower Hamlets Early Intervention Service / Tower Hamlets Early Detection Service, 1 wte
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated HCPC - registered clinical / counselling psychologist or BAPCP registered CBT Therapist, with experience in delivering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), to work within the Tower Hamlets Early Intervention (THEIS) and Tower Hamlets Early Detection (THEDS) services. Candidates within three months of registration with HCPC or BABCP will be considered for shortlisting.
Tower Hamlets Early Intervention Service (THEIS) an early intervention in psychosis service for adults aged 18-65 years old from a range of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, experiencing first onset in psychosis. We provide a range of psychosocial interventions working within the care programme approach framework in collaboration with service users, carers and other relevant agencies. The interventions are offered in individual, group and family contexts, and commonly require an assertive outreach approach. THEIS is an expanding multi-disciplinary team and this is an exciting time to join the service with opportunities for service development work.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the psychologist role is to:
- Provide specialist assessment, formulation and evidence-based intervention for early detection and early intervention, including CBT for psychosis and family interventions
- Be involved in quality improvement, service development, evaluation and research
- To develop and support the psychosocial work of other staff through teaching, training, supervision and consultation
- Work across both community and inpatient settings, providing psychological input to THEIS service users on inpatient wards
The post holders will be required to the work closely with the THEIS Operational lead, Principal Psychologist and Clinical Leads across the teams. You will need to be self-motivated, clinically up to date with advances in the field, with proven experience of undertaking assessments and interventions in secondary care settings.
You must be keen to embrace the privileges of working in a diverse borough, have experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties and from a range of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as working in partnership with staff teams, experts by experience, and community organisations.

- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology OR Doctorate in Counselling Psychology OR Accredited training as a CBT Therapist, to a Master's Degree Level and Core mental health profession, or demonstrable working knowledge of NHS values, clinical structures in secondary mental health care, referral pathways, how services are funded and the roles of NHS professionals
- Full registration with one of: 1. HCPC as a Chartered Psychologist 2. BABCP
Desirable
- Training in administering, interpreting and communicating neuropsychological assessments.
- CBT trained with respect to Depression, Anxiety and Psychosis
