Community Psychiatric Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist

Job summary

EQUIP provides an assertive and responsive service to adults for up to 3 years during their recovery from a first episode of psychosis. The service covers the City of London and London Borough of Hackney. Emphasis is placed on maximising wellbeing and on social, psychological, physical and educational/vocational recovery. The team works to standards set for early intervention in psychosis teams and participates in the annual National Clinical Audit on Psychosis.

EQUIP works closely with the early detection team, HEADS UP, which provides support to those who are at risk of developing psychosis and actively connects with local community groups in order to improve detection rates of this group.

Main duties of the job

The role of the CPN, Social Worker or OT is to care co-ordinate a caseload of clients, to actively work to engage with and support them and to offer an early intervention in psychosis care package in accordance with NICE guidelines. This will include conducting delegated responsibilities on behalf of the London Borough of Hackney or the City of London, such as Care Act assessments and responsibilities associated with safeguarding adults and children. Clear and timely recording on the clinical record, plus the preparation of statutory and other reports, are essential.

Care co-ordinators contribute to the team duty rota, which supports both EQUIP and Heads Up and contributes to the co-ordination and conduct of screening assessments. CPNs will also be responsible for the administration of depot medication for the relatively small number of patients on depots and other clinically appropriate interventions. Social Workers will be expected to provide guidance to health colleagues in relation to social care issues, and to practice as an AMHP (following training if needed). OTs will be expected to provide ADL and other relevant assessments within the team. Participation in quality initiatives is encouraged and CPD and reflective practice are embedded in the team.

About us

EQUIP seeks to be a team which reflects the diversity of the boroughs it serves. We are a hard working group of individuals who actively support one another in managing challenging situations. We are motivated by a desire to provide a positive early experience of mental health services for those who are developing a psychotic illness. We seek to work with individuals and their families in a recovery focused, collaborative way. There are opportunities for development and CPD is embedded in the team. Flexible working applications are welcome.
