Job summary
We are seeking a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist to join the Community Recovery Team North in Newham. This is a rare opportunity to work in an integrated service, covering both community and inpatients. The Community Recovery Team serves adults with serious mental illness residing in the North of the borough. It is a well-established service which seamless and integrated mental health care between inpatients and the community.
Newham also hosts a WHO Collaborating Centre (the only one specifically for Mental Health Service Development in the world) and the successful applicant will have opportunities for academic links with the Centre, and its large research group in social psychiatry and global mental health. The option for job planned time for research activity will be actively considered. The successful candidate will also be enrolled on the Trusts highly regarded Improvement Science in Action training and will be encouraged to contribute to our unique Quality Improvement programme.
Main duties of the job
To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trust's personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are European Working Time Directive compliant.
To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
- On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT
- Higher training in approved training posts for minimum of 3 years and / or previous consultant training.
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
- Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983 and Approved Clinician status
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

- Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatry at ST4-6 or Consultant level within the last 3 years
