Job summary

Bank Phlebotomist to work across all 4 sites providing clinical support to service users and co work with admin staff.

To work as part of a team, using standard techniques approved nationally and as part of staff competencies for community services. To support the Phlebotomy Lead and participate in the delivery of an efficient phlebotomy service.

Main duties of the job

Venipuncture Procedure following Health and Safety Guidelines and Infection Control Policy.

Team Work appropriately within the Team

Control stock levels and keep updated stock availability

Mandatory Trust Training to keep up to date

Swiftqueue system knowledge (training provided)

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE or equivalent standard of education with emphasis on numeracy and literacy
  • Proof of phlebotomy training

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience as a phlebotomist
  • Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology relevant to obtaining blood by an invasive procedure
  • Recognise contraindications and complications arising from the procedure and to give appropriate advise to the client or how to seek further advise
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment
  • Able to communicate with clients and members of the multidisciplinary teams in a professional manner

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of all Health and Safety procedures
  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team, shift patterns and unsociable hours
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral in English
  • Must be able to bleed using the standard techniques and vacutainer system. Requirement for speed and accuracy, hand eye coordination
  • Ability to receive and carry out instruction in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Competent in use of Windows software
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to use own initiative
