Job summary

Ocean is a psychology-led service combining psychology and specialist midwifery in supporting women and birthing people who are experiencing moderate-severe mental health difficulties relating to baby loss and birth trauma. Ocean is a community based service, offering a range of interventions including one to one psychology, group work and indirect work with maternity services.Ocean is a service that prioritises addressing maternal mental health inequalities and developing inclusive services. Therefore a significant part of this role will focus on partnership working and co-production with local community groups to ensure that our service is accessible and relevant to the diverse communities that we serve. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in and knowledge of the principles of community psychology, and a shared model of working collaboratively with statutory and third sector colleagues, faith organisations and community members including service users and carers.Ocean is based in Vivienne Cohen House in Hackney, and offers support to women and birthing people across East London in the boroughs of City & Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. You must be keen to embrace the privileges of working in diverse boroughs and have experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties from a range of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds to deliver psychologically informed care.

Main duties of the job

  1. Providing psychological assessments and interventions to women and birthing people under the care of Ocean MMHS
  2. Developing and delivering group and one to one interventions, as appropriate for the needs of the service

  • Qualifications: Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) or BPS statement of Equivalence and able to demonstrate eligibility for BPS CPsychol (Chartered Psychologist;Or Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and able to demonstrate eligibility for BPS CPsychol (Chartered Psychologist); Or Accredited training as a CBT Therapist, to a Master's Degree Level and Core mental health profession, or demonstrable working knowledge of NHS values, clinical structures in secondary mental health care, referral pathways, how services are funded and the roles of NHS professionals
  • Registration: Full registration with one of: 1. HCPC as a Chartered Psychologist 2. BABCP

Desirable

  • Specialist training in perinatal mental health
  • Specialist training in community psychology approaches
  • Specialist training in narrative approaches

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in NHS settings or context.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of patient groups across the while life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience in ensuring equality of access and acceptable interventions to diverse populations.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Experience of working with people who have experienced difficulties including PTSD, complex PTSD and loss at a graduate or post-graduate level.

  • Competence in advanced IT packages and keyboard skills.
  • Cultural awareness and competence: Understanding and awareness of the potential impact of racism, discrimination & disadvantage on the mental health of Black and ethnic minority people.
