Due to expansion of the service we currently have a vacancy for an occupational therapy assistant, who is enthusiastic, motivated therapist and passionate about seeing the impact that OT can have in helping children and young people achieve their maximum potential.

Band 4 OTA.

Working to support the Children's OT Service as we develop and grow. Working to support the OTs in delivering OT to children and young people in Newham. To work alongside OTs in clinics, schools, community settings and the homes of the child/yp.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside experienced colleagues and receive in-house training and support to deliver high quality occupational therapy services to children and young people. The service is delivered across a variety of community settings including home, clinics, nurseries and schools.

You will be involved in the delivery of group interventions, parents coaching, supporting delivering specific programmes to children under the guidance of an OT and supporting the day to day running of the service. As a valued member of the team, you will have opportunity to be involved in service improvement.

Based in Stratford, near the Olympic Park, in the London Borough of Newham - located only 3 miles from the City of London.

The post holder will join our team of 14 skilled and passionate OTs in a service which is innovative, responsive, and adaptable. You will received monthly supervision, mentoring from members of the OT Service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a member of Occupational Therapy Service for Children and under the wider Specialist Children & Young Peoples Service (SCYPS). They will work alongside and under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT), assisting and supporting the therapist as an integrated member of the team.

The post holder will assist in all aspects of caseload management and carry out a variety administrative tasks to support the OTs and the wider service.

The post holder will support the Occupational Therapy Team in delivering a comprehensive specialist service to children and young people referred with a wide range of physical and complex learning disabilities, working in a variety of locations within the community, including our base at West Ham Lane Health Centre, mainstream and specialist schools and at the patients home.

The post holder will work both with the occupational therapists, and, after instruction and training, independently to assist families and education staff in carrying out OT programmes and monitoring use of equipment.

The post holder will also assist in the smooth running of the service by ensuring adequate stock of specialist equipment supplies and assessments, the ordering and recording stock and non-stock items on the ELMS system, keeping the department tidy, maintaining the cleanliness of toys and equipment used, and inputting data onto systems as required.

The post holder will support all members of the team with administration tasks including uploading of Tribunal Bundles, making resources to support programmes for children, and ensuring the links on website and resources are checked and updated on a yearly basis.

Assisting with specific Clinics including DCD Clinics, setting up standardised assessment kits in rooms for therapists, assisting therapists if required during the assessment process.

The post holder, under guidance and supervision, will help co-ordinate the organization of some clinics which will include carrying out telephone calls and liaison with other external agencies.

The job requires a good level of mobility and fitness due to the nature of working with young children in different environments with varying conditions.

  • Good typing and computer skills including a knowledge and use of Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft word, power point.
