Job summary
The post holder will be an experienced HCPC registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist. They will be responsible for the provision of highly specialist, co produced, psychological input to secondary mental health services and those in the community, particularly those vulnerable to poor health outcomes through poverty and other social inequalities, disabilities and physical health conditions. They will also supervise other psychological therapists and therapists in training.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering individual and group therapy assessments and interventions to service users presenting with severe and enduring psychological difficulties, in particular personality disorder diagnoses and childhood trauma, as well as complex mood difficulties. They will join a vibrant and innovative psychotherapy service as part of the Integrative Psychotherapy team with freedom to tailor therapeutic approaches using different models according to need.
Service users seen by the post holder will include those who have experienced high levels of distress and complex mental health difficulties. Service users may present with a high level of risk to both themselves and sometimes to other people. Assessments and interventions will be primarily delivered within the SPS setting at 409 Stratford High Street.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical /Counselling psychologist with skills in CBT and Integrative therapy to contribute to the provision of therapies in our Psychotherapy Service. You will be joining a vibrant team of psychological practitioners & contributing to a high quality clinical service using a variety of therapeutic models with an approach which takes into account the social, economic and political context of psychological problems and considers the impact on mental health of socio-economic deprivation, difference, discrimination and racism. Experience of working with interpreters is important.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering assessments and individual and group interventions to service users presenting with severe and enduring psychological difficulties, in particular complex trauma, PTSD and mood difficulties as well as psychosis.
Clinical work in the Integrative team draws on different approaches, including schema therapy and compassion focused therapy, and also allows for flexibility in combining other models according to client need such as more psychodynamically oriented approaches like DIT.
Specialist skills and experience of delivering longer term therapy (over 20 sessions) in complex presentations in an NHS setting are essential. Knowledge and skills around risk assessment and management and liaison and coordination with parts of the mental health system are therefore important.
