Counselling/Clinical Psychologist or Psychotherapist
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated qualified and HCPC registered Counselling/Clinical Psychologist or BPC registered psychodynamic psychotherapist to a Band 7 post in our Crisis Therapy Service based at Mile End Hospital.
The post is initially for one year fixed term to cover maternity leave - however there may be scope to extend.
The Crisis Therapy Serviceis a small multi-disciplinary specialist mental health team within the teams in the Tower Hamlets Crisis Pathway.
We offer rapid access to assessment and brief psychotherapy to patients in non-psychotic crisis.Many of the patients referred are at risk, or have a recent history of deliberate self-harm and suicidal behaviour. The service is responsive to referrers and the needs of patients in crisis, providing quick assessment and brief treatment. The service aims to help patients return to the level of functioning present before the crisis, and wherever possible, enable them to improve the coping ability and capacity for growth.
The post would be suitable for a qualified and experienced clinician keen to engage with the challenges of working in a diverse borough with patients from a range of cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Candidates should have an interest in and experience of providing brief psychological therapy to individuals presenting in non-psychotic crisis, experiencing acute distress and with variable levels of risk.
Main duties of the job
Working as part of a small specialist team of psychotherapists, offering assessments/ongoing treatment for patients who find themselves in crisis
Identifying patient needs and concerns and using formulation to guide risk/treatment plans.
To engage in dynamic case discussion within the team contributing to psychological/psychodynamic insight on referrals and ongoing clinical work.
Would suit a confident, thoughtful clinician who is able to be flexible within boundaries and to think creatively for crisis model based solutions within the extended MDT and who values team thinking.
We offer both in-person and online appointments. Working 'hybrid' from home and in person at Mile End Hospital 1-2 days per week.

- oDoctorate in Counselling Psychology.
- oAdditional relevant clinical and/or managerial knowledge and skills acquired through formal training, long or short courses, formal supervision (individual and/or group), structured self-study or experience (or a combination of these) to an appropriate level approved by the Head of Psychology and demonstrated by certification, documented supervision logs, management appraisal documentation and/or assessment at interview.
- oBe eligible for chartership with the BPS

- oPlacement experience during training as a counselling Psychologist for a minimum of two years including relevant experience, within an NHS psychological treatment service
- oWork within at least two therapeutic models.
- oExperience of delivering time limited interventions.
- oExperience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of care settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
