Job summary

The Neurodevelopmental Team within City & Hackney CAHMS is excited to be offering some of the earliest opportunities in England for talented and passionate psychology graduates to join NHS Mental Health services as Apprentice Clinical Associates in Psychology within CAMHS. We have successfully supported one previous candidate through this training route in our schools' team over the last 18 months. We now have an opportunity for an apprentice psychology graduate to join our Neurodevelopmental team to train as an applied psychologist.

As an apprenticeship you will be working and being paid full time while you complete a Masters qualification at the University of East Anglia (UEA), the full fees for this will be paid.

During their first-year apprentices will spend roughly half of their time 'on the job' working in our Neurodevelopment Team and the rest of their time 'off the job' studying. The study time will be a mix of face-to-face training at the UEA campus in Norwich, and online training. There will be approximately 25 days where attendance will be required at the Norwich campus.

The successful candidate will have travel and accommodation expenses paid for by ELFT. This aspect of the post is not negotiable - candidates will be expected to commit to this when accepting an apprenticeship. For the final six months apprentices work mostly 'on the job', with sessions at UEA to support them through the End Point Assessment and then into their qualified roles.

Main duties of the job

To undertake the requirements of the Apprenticeship for the Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP). This will be a structured programme of learning including work-based learning, personal study, academic learning, research and assessment, leading to the award of MSc for Clinical Associate in Psychology

The post holder will provide psychological interventions to service users in the Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT) in City & Hackney CAMHS.

This work will be under the supervision of a qualified HCPC registered practitioner psychologist who will retain clinical responsibility for clinical work carried out, provided that the clinical work is within the care plan specified.

The characteristics of the core population receiving direct services are: children & adolescents (0-18) with moderate to severe mental health difficulties and a known neurodevelopmental condition, and their families. There will also be opportunities to work in the assessment pathway for those suspected of having a neurodevelopmental condition, who may have milder mental health concerns.

Psychological based provision is offered to the local/identified population at the individual, group, parent and family level through to teams, systems and community level.
