Band 6 - Senior Podiatrist

The Foot Health Service in Newham is based in The University of East London, Stratford campus. We are recruiting Band 6 Podiatrists. We welcome applications from NHS and non-NHS podiatrists.

You will be seeking a role as a Podiatrist where you can use and develop your skills and knowledge across the full range of our services. You are self-motivated and motivated by others to provide excellent patient-centred care, and are looking for an opportunity to further develop your career and be a team member.

We have a fruitful and strong culture of collaborative working with Vascular services, GPs, Diabetologists, District Nursing and Tissue Viability Services, and Therapy services.

The Foot Health Service provides a range of clinical services within the community, hospital, patient and nursing home settings. You will be enthusiastic to undertake a rotation into Nail Surgery, MSK, High Risk Foot, Triage and other specialised clinics, to hone your skills and put them into daily practice to increase our efficiency and effectiveness in all settings and clinics and better manage patient care.

You are self-motivated and motivated by others, to provide excellent evidence-based, patient-centred care, and are seeking to develop your clinical knowledge, experience, and, of course, your career.

Main duties of the job

We base our care on a Short -Term Treatment Plan management approach, team working, clear communication and holistic care. This is supported by our Trust values.

  1. To provide podiatry treatment in a variety of clinical settings.
  2. Following assessment, refer the patient to appropriate specialist services as required
  3. Responsible for evaluating outcomes and develop treatment appropriately.
  4. To meet Trust and Professional standards of care and documentation.

To be able to assess the level of risk involved in assessment and treatment to ensure self and patient safety

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for assessment and treatment of a range of patients ensuring full patient/carer involvement and consent in goal setting to develop individual treatment plans to meet their podiatric need.
  • To undertake comprehensive yearly foot screening including assessment of neurological, vascular and biomechanical status enabling risk status to be determined using appropriate care pathway.
  • Following assessment, refer the patient to appropriate specialist services as required
  • Responsible for evaluating outcomes and develop treatment appropriately.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and carers to take a relevant medical history, to obtain diagnostic information and to implement treatment plans with sufficient explanation to ensure informed consent.
  • To use complex communication skills e.g. empathy, persuasion, motivation in difficult circumstances for patients in pain, distress and vulnerable circumstances.
  • Have the ability to diffuse conflict in confrontational/stressful situations
  • To overcome barriers to communication e.g. language, sensory deficits, learning disabilities, anxiety, anger.
  • Patients appointments occur in clinics, Nursing Homes or their homes and you will be required to assess the environments for safety of both the patient and yourself.
  • To be able to perform risk assessments and to manage clinical risk within own patient caseload
