Job summary
The Tower Hamlets Mental Health Care of Older People Services (MHCOP) is looking to appoint a highly motivated and dynamic Occupational Therapist Band 7 to work in the Community Mental Health Team for Older People with Mental Health Support needs.
The Occupational Therapist is part of the established multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively to support the person to achieve their goals in self-care, productivity and leisure to continue to live at home; another aspect of the role is holistic psycho-social assessment and collaborative working with other members of the CMHT.
The post-holder will have excellent assessment and individual and group intervention skills, and will have the opportunity to provide client-centred assessments and interventions in a flexible and creative way.There are also opportunities to develop the service in line with Mental Health Community Transformation
As a Senior Occupational Therapist in the MHCOP services you willtake the lead for Occupational Therapy services for older people with functional and organic mental health needs in collaboration with the Head Occupational Therapist, you will also be involved with the development of the Occupational Therapy service and provide supervision to junior Occupational Therapists.
Main duties of the job
- To provide high quality evidence based and person-centered Occupational Therapy service to older people with functional and/or organic mental health problems living in the community.
- To provide expert advice to the Community Mental Health Team on Occupational Therapy issues and to raise the profile of Occupational Therapy approaches to care within the Team.
- To manage difficult clinical situations and advise occupational therapy colleagues on working with clients with emotional and behavioural needs. The post may initiate group activities within the community as necessary
- To work in collaboration with the Head OT in the development of clinical and professional practice and support the implementation of research, evidence based practice, quality standards and audit within the OT service / MDT
- To contribute to the on-going development and transformation of the care system in line with Community Mental Health Transformation
- To deputise for the Head OT and CMHT Operational leads as requested/in their absence.
- To develop and maintain links with relevant, statutory and non-statutory agencies throughout Tower Hamlets
