Job summary

Newham CAMHS is delighted to be able to offer a new and innovative role working in partnership with Primary care. This is the first stage in a project aimed at integrating specialist and primary care to help families get the right care at the right time.

We are looking for a proactive and experienced mental health nurse to assist young people and their families at a GP practice in assessing mental health needs, assessing and managing risk, signposting and where appropriate undertake short term interventions with them.

The successful applicant will be an important link between services and will support primary care colleagues with training and support and with development of the service.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse with experience in working with networks, building relationships with key services and has experience and expertise of working with children and young people.

Main duties of the job

The job will include triage, providing early assessment, risk assessment and risk management plan, treatment and onward referral to appropriate care pathways or support. The role will include working as part of the PCN and Newham CAMHS MDT, training of PCN staff and may include work on PCN MH initiatives. The post-holder will be responsible for the clinical and operational functions of the role, ensuring good record-keeping and timely access to services.

The role will require a highly skilled, experienced and motivated Mental Health Practitioner. This would be a graduate, qualified Mental Health nurse/specialist Allied Healthcare Professional fully registered with the appropriate professional/ regulatory body. CAMHS experience, to provide care to CYP patients who present in General Practice, would be desirable. As a Band 7, the post holder will have responsibility to support other staff and be an effective team member in both the PCN and Newham CAMHS teams.
