Job summary
Applicants are invited to apply to the above post to work as Consultant in Respiratory Medicine in the Directorate of General & SpecialtyMedicine within the Medicine Division. This post is a for a full time, permanent position.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for providing professional care & treatment of patients at all times.
Participate in on call General Medicine rota that includes weekend working. Currently the rota is a 1 in 18 but this may reduce over the next year as part of developments taking place in Medicine.
Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as "Duties of a Doctor", "Good Medical Practice" & the "GMC Performance Procedures."

- The post is offered on a full-time basis; flexible working may be considered after discussion with the Clinical Director and depending on service needs.
- The post holder will be part of the Consultant Respiratory Physician team, providing a respiratory inpatient and outpatient service.
- To develop the Respiratory services and participate in multidisciplinary meetings in relation to service improvement.
- We are looking to strengthen clinical pathways between primary, secondary and specialist community care to provide a truly integrated high quality respiratory service.
- The post holder may therefore be expected to support the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager with business cases for various service developments.
- Subspecialty interests are encouraged and subspecialty leads will typically attract additional 0.25 SPA.
- Newly appointed consultant staff will be given appropriate support within their role. This includes opportunities for the successful post holder to access appropriate clinical/peer mentoring.
- Contribute to the General Medical on-call Rota.
- Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Conduct teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.
- Participate in audit, clinical governance, annual job plan, and appraisal.
