Job summary

The Theatre Matron is accountable jointly with the Lead practitioner and ADD for managing patient flow efficiently and effectively for all aspects of clinical governance within their remit.

As a member of the senior team within the Division, the Matron will act as a professional role model to all Nurses/practitioners and will take corrective action to uphold the standards required of the Trust and the profession. This will include participating in hospital specific shift arrangements to provide professional advice and leadership during evenings (including nights in extreme circumstances), weekends and bank holidays in support of the operational teams.

Main duties of the job

Assist patients/service users/carers/relatives during incidental contacts. Accountable for ensuring the appropriate and effective development, delivery and monitoring of patient care and service across their division. Monitor the quality and timeliness of nursing care and service provision in accordance with relevant professional and local standards. Responsible for ensuring that care is delivered in a safe, efficient, effective and timely manner

The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of main theatres and pre op assessment. They will be supported by the lead practitioner for surgery and the Directorate manager for critical care.

  • Effective written communication skills including analysis and presentation of reports.
