Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious individual to join our recovery and anaesthetic team. Based from our recovery areas you will be integral in patient flow from our elective ward (D6), feeding into our 18 theatres and returning patients safely . This role is developing rapidly and will do in the future due to its success. Full training will be given and a supernumery period is afforded, to ensure all competencies are met before working solo. Main duties of the job
- Monitor patient's condition, taking observations as directed and recording findings in the notes and EPR system and escalating observations outside normal parameters to nurse in charge.
- Under the direction of the recovery co-ordinator escort the patients back to the wards, whilst observing the post-surgical patient in transit and take action to get them to a place of safety should the patient deteriorate.
- Help to ensure patients' safety, comfort, dignity, confidentiality and welfare at all times in accordance with Trust Policies.
- To assist the recovery staff with daily cleaning/equipment checks and stocking of the recovery unit to ensure the smooth running of the unit.
- To assist the recovery staff in the moving and handling of patients.
- To escort patient from the admissions area into the anaesthetic room performing all pre op checks.
- To work in tandem with the reception team to ensure the availability of runners and suitable equipment.
- Ensure the equipment needed for patient transfer is fully working and operational
- Ensure that care is appropriate, provided and is consistent with clinical guidelines.
- To ensure safe patient care in theatres when working with patients under sedation/Local anaesthetic/escalate all concerns to the named qualified practitioner assigned to that theatre.
- Promote the safeguarding of vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy.

- Manage time effectively under the direction of the recovery co-ordinator.
- Assist in the preparation of the recovery unit every morning.
- Ensuring all equipment is calibrated and checked as per manufacturers instructions.
- Preparing the recovery bay for patient use.
- To perform under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner (ODP/RGN) as a safe competent practitioner to provide specialised care in the recovery unit.
- To maintain effective lines of communications throughout the areas of theatre services and between medical, nursing, administrative staff and management.
- To comply with existing systems (Theatre Man) for the accurate recording, collation, monitoring and feedback of appropriate information and initiating remedial action as necessary.
- To ensure the appropriate and efficient use of supplies and develop good housekeeping methods, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
- To be receptive to change in the department
- To complete internal training packages and to meet set objectives
- To complete appraisal with designated team leader.
- Record, interpret and act on patient observations and act accordingly in line with training given.
- Comply with the trusts moving and handling guidelines/infection prevention guidelines at all times.
- To ensure that the needs of relatives of patients are met whilst they are in the department,
- Act in a professional manner at all times
- Take responsibility for keeping all mandatory and specialised training current and up to date.
