Job summary

The general urological duties include in-patient work at Stepping Hill and out-patient responsibilities between Stepping Hill, Tameside and Macclesfield .

The post holder will cover a 12 month fixed term locum. This will include performing core urological procedures including TURBT, Bipolar TURP, prostate biopsy and Ureteroscopy and laser to stones.

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to uphold the standards required for urology cancer accreditation, the cancer standards including inter - Trust transfers and 18 week targets.

Stockport urology covers a large geographical area and covers other hospitals for benign and cancer surgery. Since 2015 we have been using the da vinci robotic system which is currently the X version. We are the largest urology robotic centre in greater Manchester and do approximately 380 robotic urology cases per year.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinician to join Stockport NHS FT as a Locum Consultant Urologist for 12 months.

Stepping Hill Urology, as part of the Division of Surgery, provides a comprehensive urology service for patients in Stockport, Macclesfield, Tameside & Glossop, and High Peak. Outpatient activity is streamlined through purpose-built urology facilities at Stepping Hill and Tameside, which house all clinics, specialist sessions.. Out-patient and day case activity takes place at Macclesfield with satellite clinics at Knutsford and Congleton.

All in-patient activity takes place in the central hub at Stepping Hill Hospital. The unit provides major cancer surgery for Crewe patients as well as the above areas and hosts the specialist multi-disciplinary team meetings for the above patients who number 1.1 million. The benign services are supported by regional pelvic floor MDT (East Cheshire, Tameside and Stockport)

The contract will be offered at 10 PA and the rostered sessions may vary from week to week. 1.5 SPA will be allocated.

All Consultants may be requested to work flexibly in undertaking their duties. This may require working during the evenings and weekends to ensure effective delivery of service and its sustainability. The need for any alterations will be highlighted by the Clinical Director and discussed with all relevant Consultants.
