Band 2 Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Post

Part time - 24.5h per week (on average)

Main working hours will be Friday & Saturday nights 8pm - 8am and every 3rd Sunday night 8pm - 7am (Sunday night shifts split with 2 other night MLA).

(NOTE - there is no sponsorship available for this role).

The Pathology department at Stepping Hill Hospital (Stockport NHS Foundation Trust) is seeking a Medical Laboratory assistant to join the Blood Sciences team to assist with processing samples that arrive in the lab in the evenings. The successful applicant(s) would be joining a friendly and passionate staffing group providing diagnostic services to the hospital patients and wider community.

The role supports the delivery of Blood Sciences services. As the suitable candidate you will have good standard of numeracy and literacy, strong & accurate data entry skills and excellent attention to detail. The post-holder will be provided full training to undertake all the required activities to perform the role.

Main duties of the job

Receipt, recording and preparation of a variety of patient samples e.g. blood, urine, faeces and other body fluids.

Sort and identify specimens received in the Laboratory

Enter/enrol patient's details and other data onto the computer.

Assist the Biomedical Scientists in technical duties as required under supervision of the Biomedical Scientists.

Perform general clerical duties associated with the work of the Laboratory, including filing, telephone answering, photocopying etc.

Work with other team members to cover absence due to sickness and annual leave (this may include weekend and night shifts).

Perform other miscellaneous duties under supervision and according to protocols laid down.
