Consultant Physician with Special interest in Stroke Medicine - 1 post
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is one of four Specialist hospitals in the Greater Manchester Region.
Due to a recent retirement we are inviting applications for a full time post of Consultant Physician with Special interest in Stroke Medicine to join our dynamic stroke team at one of the three Hyper acute Stroke Centers in Greater Manchester.
The Department of Stroke Medicine is being heavily invested in as part of the Trust's long term strategy to continue to provide and enhance the quality of care delivered.
This is an extremely exciting time to join a growing specialist hospital, co-located with the serene rural setting to the south and the bustling urban vibe of Manchester to the North including excellent links via airport and rail.
Main duties of the job
The appointees will join a cohesive team of 9 consultants involved in Stroke services enhancing service delivery.
You will be expected to participate in Stroke Thrombolysis on call Rota (1 in 9 on call from 7am -11.30 pm only). There are no general medical on call commitments.
The successful candidate should have completed Specialist Training in General Medicine and Geriatrics and/or subspecialty training in Stroke Medicine.
The candidate should be on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to participate in teaching and mentoring of junior medical staff, medical students and specialist nurses.
Supervise the training of junior medical staff on the team in conjunction with the other consultant physicians in the department.
Jointly manage with the other consultants in the department patients admitted to the allocated wards and areas of clinical responsibility.
Participate in regular departmental and national audit and help with the departmental research activities and contribute to the departmental and medicine business group meetings.
Demonstrate active contribution to Primary stroke centre clinical governance programme and other governance process within the business group.
Work in close partnership with the Lead Clinician for Stroke in the implementation of the Primary Stroke Centre, developing protocols/guidelines as well as undertaking audits to facilitate governance
Specifically adopt, in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality Stroke Service for the Business group.
Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, and ensure that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods
Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
Develop close links with General Practitioners operating in the area.
All Consultants are required to work flexibly in undertaking their duties. This may require working during the evenings and weekends to ensure effective delivery of service and its sustainability. The need for any alterations will be highlighted by the Clinical Director and discussed with all relevant Consultants.
This timetable is open to discussion/adjustment within reason depending on the needs of the service and credentials of the individual and where appropriate agreed changes can be incorporated into this timetable
If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £43.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
