Job summary
Applications are invited for the position of a Consultant Breast Surgeon with a specialist interest in breast and reconstructive surgery to join a team of 4 consultant Breast surgeons working at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust and will complement the current well-established experienced team of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeons.
The successful candidate will also be part of a team of Specialty Doctors and specialist nurses for the provision of one stop outpatient clinics and surgery. This a 1 year, full-time locum post working across two hospital sites, covering a consultant who is on sabbatical.
The Breast Unit is based at QEII Hospital which is specially designed such that the clinics, X-ray department, breast care nurses, and receptionists are located adjacent to each other. The breast operations are carried out at Lister Hospital, which is an elective admission site.
Working hours for a full day are 8.00am to 6.00pm. There are some half days and one day a week late operating to 8.30pm.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will manage all aspects of breast disease in the outpatient setting including running breast clinics for new patients in a one-stop setting as well as results, post-operative and follow-up clinics. Attendance is required at the weekly multidisciplinary meeting. The post will require proficiency in oncoplastic breast surgery including implant-base reconstruction.
The job plan comprises Theatre 2.25, Clinic 3.5, MDM 0.75, Admin 2, SPA 1.5 = 10PA. The job plan is subject to change according to the Department's and Trust's requirements, if necessary, in the future. The working conditions in this post are equitable to the current consultants
