Radiopharmacy Technician

Job summary

We are looking a Radiopharmacy Technician who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

Under the direction of the Production Manager you will support the radiopharmacy service. You must have demonstrated experience and training in aseptic manufacture and ideally this should include radiopharmacy.

You will carry out the technical duties required for the provision of radiopharmaceuticals to the Trust and its customers, including the manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals, radiopharmacy environmental monitoring, radiopharmaceutical quality control and assisting with the maintenance of the pharmaceutical quality system.

You must be able to work different shift times on a rota basis or asand when required. e.g. earlies (05:00-13:30 or 06:00-14:30), middle (07:00-15:30) and late (08:15-16:30) for an occasional or prolonged period of time if requested todo so and to be flexible to meet the needs of the role. Weekend working may be required.

Main duties of the job

Participate in the aseptic preparation and dispensing of a range of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, following standard operating procedures, the requirements of the Manufacturer's Specials Licence and GMP.

Assist with the packaging and dispatch of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with documented procedures ensuring that packages are consigned to couriers for transport to other hospitals.

Participate in the regular program of quality control checks of equipment used in the Radiopharmacy and assist the Production Manager with maintaining equipment calibration.

Undertake work within Radiopharmacy to include the daily, weekly, monthly or six-monthly cleaning and disinfection of safety cabinets, laminar flow cabinets. isolators, other equipment, facilities and consumables to ensure quality standards and strict GMP guidelines are maintained.

Undertake routine microbiological monitoring tasks in all production areas to ensure that the environment remains within specified limits.

  • BTEC in pharmaceutical sciences or NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus significant experience/specialist training equivalent to BTEC'
  • Diploma in Nuclear Medicine
  • Scientific degree or Equivalent e.g. Pharmaceutical Science

Desirable

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Technician
  • Healthcare Professional Council (HCPC)
  • Register of Clinical Technologists
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (Royal Pharmaceutical Society of GB, Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine)
  • Post-graduate qualification (certificate/diploma/MSc) in Radiopharmacy or equivalent knowledge & expertise in the field.

Previous Experience

  • Previous experience as a technician in aseptic services / aseptic manufacture / radiopharmacy with proven ability to aseptically manufacture products accurately and without errors.
