Job summary

We are recruiting for a Trainee Clinical Photographer who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

As a Trainee Clinical Photographer you will provide support to the Department of Clinical Photography & Illustration (DCPI).

Contributing to the delivery of a day-to-day operational cost effective and efficient service including clinical photography, non-clinical photography, video and illustration (graphic design), to the Trust and other allied agencies.

The Trainee Clinical Photographer supports all clinical specialities including Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, Oral Surgery, ENT and Paediatrics (including sudden infant death and non-accidental injury), taking photographs in the studio, operating theatres, mortuary, outpatient clinics and on the wards.

Illustration (graphic design) and video have now become a major part of the DCPI's remit, and the Clinical Photographer will be expected to fully participate in this work using industry standard software e.g. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

Main duties of the job

To support the department in the delivery of a comprehensive and professional Clinical Photography and Illustration service.

Training in-house will be provided in all aspects which the photographer is not fully conversant with.

Responsibilities include participating in the delivery of a comprehensive clinical photography service to all specialties using standard operating procedures, adapted from the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI) National Guidelines and ensuring ethical practices are followed.

  • Ensures that work passing through the department is of a highly professional nature and that the rules of confidentiality are adhered to at all times
  • Ensures and observes all appropriate legislation and professional guidelines are met e.g. Health and Safety, Fire, patient confidentiality, Child Protection Act and Copyright and Patients Act
