Job summary
We are recruiting Student Midwives who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
This is an innovative, flexible, work-based course for Registered Nurses who want to become NMC Qualified Midwives.
The course is funded by NHS England, paying your tuitionfees and offering salary support at mid band 5 with no enhancements. You will be learning to provide midwifery care in a variety of settings under direct supervision of a midwife practice supervisor. You will attend the University of Hertfordshire for theoretical teaching.
The 21.5 month full time, BSc /Master of Midwifery (MMID) Shortened Programme at the University of Hertfordshire commences on the 6th of January 2025, concludes on the 28th of August 2026. You will be employed on a fixed term contract for the duration of the course.
The pre-registration Midwifery programme (shortened) is a Full-time programme offered at BSc (Hons) or master's level at the University of Hertfordshire. You will develop your skills and knowledge so that you can become a responsive, confident midwife able to care for women and their babies. Focusing on holistic care, you will gain a sound knowledge of what is normal and healthy in childbearing women, enabling you to recognise and manage complications they might face.Main duties of the job
Determine and provide programmes of care and support for women and their babies under direct supervision of midwives which:
o Are appropriate to the needs, contexts, culture and choices of the women, babies and their families.
o Are made in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and women.
o Are ethical
o Are based on best evidence and clinical judgement.
o Involve other practitioners when this will improve health outcomes.
Care for and monitor women during the puerperium offering the necessary evidence-based advice and support on baby and self-care.
o Antenatal
o Intrapartum
o Postnatal
Provide seamless care and interventions in partnership with women and other care providers during the antenatal period which
o Are appropriate for women's assessed needs, context and culture
o Promote their continuing health and well-being
o Are evidence-based.
o Are consistent with the management of risk.
o Draw on the skills of others to optimise health outcomes and resource use.
Refer women who would benefit from the skills and knowledge of other individuals:
o To an individual who is likely to have the requisite skills and experience to assist.
o At the earliest possible time
o Supported by accurate, legible and complete information which contains the reasoning behind making the referral and describes their needs and preferences.

Attend university theory and complete academic work.
