Hertfordshire and West Essex Vascular Network (HWEVN)
The East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust are collaborating to form the Hertfordshire and West Essex Vascular Network (HWEVN). We are seeking two exceptional Consultant Vascular Surgeons to join our dynamic team and support the growth of our vascular services within this network. This is a full-time appointments comprising 10.5 programmed activities (PAs). The post holder is expected to cover elective and emergency vascular work, and supporting renal access work. You will also provide outpatient clinics, day surgeries, and diagnostic facilities across the network.

About the Network: The HWEVN, with its hub at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, was awarded Vascular Hub status in 2018. Our network serves a population of approximately 1.5 million people, with completion expected by 2025. The network includes West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Watford and The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Harlow.
Main duties of the job
It is expected that the applicants will be trained in vascular and endovascular surgery to complement an existing department offering a full elective and emergency surgery service. Having experience in Vascular access procedures will be advantageous. One of the posts will have academic element to compliment the department. Across the ICB the care of inpatient and emergency vascular surgery are centralised at the Lister site with consultants involved in the on-call rota providing a consultant-led commitment free service as COW from Monday to Friday. Night on calls and weekend on calls covered by different consultants. It is expected that the successful candidates may be expected to cover the networked hospitals for the spoke level service provision along with existing spoke consultants.

- To assume responsibility, both personally and corporately with consultant colleagues, for the management of junior medical staff. You are expected to be involved in their professional development, both clinical and personal as per guidance from the Deanery.
